G-Braves Game Notes for 4.29.12 at Toledo
It’s another busy Sunday for the G-Braves today as they continue a four-game set at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, OH. Gwinnett captured its third-straight win last night with an 8-3 decision over the Mud Hens, getting some serious production out of the middle of the order. Ernesto Mejia and Joey Terdoslavich each went 2-for-4 with home runs and two RBI (both hitting their third blasts of the year), while Stefan Gartrell notched a two-run double to give the G-Braves a permanent lead in the fifth inning. Right-hander Todd Redmond (W, 2-2) turned in his second quality start, limiting the ’Hens to three runs over 6.0 innings while striking out seven. As usual, the G-Pen was air-tight as right-handers Erik Cordier and Jason Rice combined on 3.0 scoreless, one-hit innings.
Dave Brundage’s IL South-leading crew will try to capture the series with Toledo today with right-hander Jair Jurrjens set to make his first start since being optioned to Triple-A. Jurrjens is 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA (10 ER in 19.0 IP) in four career Triple-A starts, all coming on previous MLB Rehab assignments with the G-Braves. Ironically, he’ll face the Triple-A affiliate of the organization that signed him in 2003 today, the Detroit-affiliated Mud Hens. Jurrjens skipped over Toledo on his way to the big-leagues in 2007 and has never faced the Tigers nor one of their minor league affiliates since arriving in Atlanta. Needless to say, it’s an interesting match-up for JJ’s first start.
Speaking of MLB Rehab assignments, right-hander Tim Hudson’s is now officially done. He’s been activated from the Atlanta DL and starts for the Braves today against Pittsburgh. That means a chain of roster moves affecting your Gwinnett Braves. Right-hander Cory Gearrin has been optioned back to Gwinnett, where he’s 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and two saves in seven outings this year…he did not pitch for Atlanta after being recalled on April 24. To make room for Gearrin, left-hander Ben Swaggerty (0-0, 4.32 in six games) has been transferred to Rookie-A Danville.
With all of these moves, it’s been a busy Sunday morning for Media/PR managers also.
