A two-out double by Gorkys Hernandez broke a 1-1 tie in the ninth as the Indianapolis Indians defeated the Gwinnett Braves, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. Jair Jurrjens pitched a scoreless inning in his final start for Gwinnett before his start for Atlanta in Boston on Friday. Luis Durango, Tyler Pastornicky andFelix Pie all recorded multi-hit games, but couldn’t help Gwinnett scratch across more than a run.
The G-Braves, losers of 16 of their last 21 games, remain 5.0 games behind Charlotte for first place in the International League South Division. The Knights (42-31) were routed by Columbus, 13-2, on Tuesday night.
Jurrjens made the start and worked just 1.0 inning in his final tune-up for the big leagues. The right-hander struck out two and walked two, throwing 20 pitches, nine for strikes. Buddy Carlyle relieved the starter and was masterful for 4.0 innings of scoreless baseball. The right-hander struck out seven, a new single-game season high for a Gwinnett reliever, yielded two hits and walked one.
