Teheran Starting Today, Sean Gilmartin Monday

Amidst mass trade rumors as we near the 2012 deadline on Tuesday, the Braves still have a plethora of talented, young arms who are poised for future success in Atlanta. The top three prospect arms in the organization are Julio Teheran, Randall Delgado and Sean Gilmartin. Now, Gilmartin may not draw the attention that Teheran and Delgado possess, however the Braves No. 1 pick in the 2011 MLB Draft is on his way.
The No. 1 prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization will start today against the International League leaders, Charlotte Knights. The last time the Colombian native started in Charlotte against the Knights, he registered his first and only career complete game, 9.0 inning, victory. Teheran will look for much of the same on Sunday, as Charlotte has lost three straight, meanwhile Gwinnett has won their last three games.
The G-Braves (50-59) and Knights (61-48) continue their four-game series Sunday afternoon with the right-hander Teheran (6-5, 5.34) starting for Gwinnett against the Knights right-hander Scott Carroll (0-0, 6.75). First pitch is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. at Knights’ Stadium with the G-Braves seeking their fourth straight win. Gilmartin will make his Triple-A debut on Monday, July 30 against the Charlotte Knights at Knights’ Stadium. The left-hander (0-0, 0.00) will take to the mound against Charlotte right-hander Charlie Shirek (9-4, 3.68) for a 7:15 p.m. scheduled first pitch from Fort Mill, South Carolina.
This season, the southpaw has a 5-8 record with a 3.54 record in 20 Double-A Mississippi starts. Nevertheless, it’s not about the win-loss record in minor league baseball. It is about consistency in your delivery and fundamental throwing, while strikeout to walk ratio and WHIP is far more important than an ERA in the minor leagues. Gilmartin has struck out 86 hitters, while walking just 26 in 119.1 innings of work with Mississippi this season. Next stop, Gwinnett.
