8.10.12 GBraves Game Notes

Gwinnett starter Julio Teheran surrendered six runs over four innings and the bullpen allowed four more runs as the Braves fell 10-2 to the Norfolk Tides on Thursday night at Coolray Field. Norfolk entered the series 0-7 against the G-Braves this season, but won the series, 3-1.

L.J. Hoes went 4-for-6 in the leadoff spot for Norfolk, while Bill Hall and Brandon Waring each plated three RBIs in the rout.

Norfolk broke a scoreless tie with a three-run second inning against Teheran and never trailed from there. Ronny Paulino led off with a single and moved to third on a ground-rule double by Luis Exposito. Both scored one batter later as Waring launched his second home run of the series and 10th of the season, a shot just clearing the right-center fence.

Joe Mahoney singled and scored on a Jack Wilson throwing error to raise the lead to 4-0 in the third inning, and an RBI single by Hoes and sacrifice fly by Hall made it 6-0 in the fourth.

Teheran (L, 6-7) lost for the second-straight outing as a result of five earned runs on eight hits including the Waring home run. He walked one and struck out three, throwing 85 pitches, 62 for strikes.

Buddy Carlyle relieved the right-hander and worked a perfect fifth inning with two strikeouts. However, the Tides tacked on two earned runs against Carlyle in the sixth. Hoes roped a two-out single to start the rally and Xavier Avery followed with a single of his own. Hall drove in both runners on a double down the right-field line, raising the lead to 8-0. Carlyle lasted 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

Norfolk starter Jason Berken threw scoreless baseball over the first six frames before allowing a pair of runs in the seventh. Josh Kroeger continued his hot hitting with a double, then came home as Ruben Gotay lifted a double into the left-center gap. Brian Friday then scored Gotay with a single up the middle, cutting the deficit to 8-2. Luis Durango and Gotay were the only two G-Braves to register multi-hit nights. Durango went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot, while Gotay went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI.
