Scouting Report- Thad Weber
Weber was drafted in 16th round of the 2008 First Year Player out of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln Draft by the Detroit Tigers. He began his career with the Low-A West Michigan WhiteCaps, going 1-4 with a 2.56 ERA in 2008. In 2009, he made history with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves, tossing a no-hitter. In his second to last start of the season, he went the distance, going 9.0 innings, facing two over the minimum (HBP & error) and striking out 10.
After two seasons with Triple-A Toledo, Weber made his Major League debut on April 21, 2012. He made two appearances for the Tigers, tossing 4.0 innings and posting a 0-1 record with a 9.00 ERA. He was optioned back down to Triple-A on 4/25. In August, He was released by Toledo and signed by the San Diego Padres.
However, the Padres designated Weber for assignment on May 17, 2013. On May 19, the Toronto Blue Jays claimed Weber off waivers, and optioned him to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. On the season with the Bisons, he is 2-1 with a 2.01 ERA.
He features four pitches: fastball, 2-seamer, curveball and changeup. He relies heavily on his low 90’s fastball and compliments it with a two-seamer. His curveball serves as his out pitch as he favors it over his change.
