The 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11 at the home of the Bisons’ in Buffalo, New York. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET between the IL All-Stars and the PCL All-Stars. The game will be televised live on the MLB Network.

Currently, two of your G-Braves are in contention for an All-Star bid. Ernesto Mejia is 5th among Triple-A first basemen, as the G-Brave slugger is leading Gwinnett in most offensive categories, including a team-high .317 batting average. Julio Teheran is 9th among starting pitchers and is back in Gwinnett after making a spot-start for the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Rest assured, Teheran is primed to make his second straight Triple-A all-star game.
Other G-Braves that should be considered for an All-Star bid are outfielders Jose Constanza, Luis Durango and Stefan Gartrell, utility man Christian Marrero and catcher Jose Yepez. Meanwhile, the pitchers that deserve consideration are starters Todd Redmond and Yohan Flande, relievers Cory Gearrin (who is playing for Atlanta currently), Jaye Chapman, Anthony Varvaro, Buddy Carlyle, Jose Luge, Adam Russell and Dusty Hughes.

Medlen Faces His Toughest Test Tonight

Kris Medlen (0-1, 4.91) is expected to make his third start in a Gwinnett Braves uniform this season, as he will oppose the International League’s top team in the form of the Pawtucket Red Sox (40-25). The Paw Sox were the first team to reach the No. 10, 20, 30 and 40-win plateu already this season and they possess a 2.5 game lead on Lehigh Valley for first place in the IL North. The G-Braves (35-30) currently reside in second place of the IL South after losing 10 of their last 13 games.
Medlen is stretching out to become a starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves and Tuesday night in Rhode Island should be the start that the G-Braves let him loose. Through his two previous starts for the G-Braves this season, the right-hander has yielded nine hits, four runs and has struck out eight while walking just two.
Medlen’s first start for Gwinnett was against the IL South leading Charlotte Knights on June 2. The righty was only allowed 60 pitches or four innings, whichever happened first. Medlen threw 66 pitches and lost the game after he allowed four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of work. In his second start, the right-hander was given a little more freedom, working five scoreless innings en route to a no decision in Pennsylvania against Lehigh Valley on June 7.
Tuesday night should be the start that G-Braves manager Dave Brundage takes off the training wheels for Kris Medlen. It should be a good tune-up regardless, as the Paw Sox possess a great deal of Major League ready talent.
Former G-Brave Mauro Gomez and his 13 home runs, 43 RBI, 121 total bases and .296 batting average await Medlen, alongside his teammate who is one of the top prospects in baseball, Lars Anderson. The big first baseman has eight home runs and 34 RBI, alongside his 88 total bases this season, ensuring that it will be a great test for the Atlanta right-hander.
Don’t forget that Jose Constanza, J.C. Boscan and Julio Teheran are all back in G-Braves gear again. The three were sent back to Gwinnett on Monday, following their recent promotions to Atlanta. All three provided a much-needed boost to one of the best team’s in Major League Baseball. The Braves couldn’t be happier with their contributions either, as Atlanata has rattled off six wins in their last seven games.
Hopefully, Gwinnett’s offense will give Medlen some early support, as they did for Monday night’s winning starter Yohan Flande. The G-Braves drilled a season-high five home runs in the game and knocked around 14 hits in their 11-8 dismantling of the IL’s top team.
Lance Zawadzki led the charge with a 3-for-5 night, including two home runs. Ernesto Mejia lifted off for his team-leading 12th home run of the season, while Josh Wilson banged out his third homer of the year and Felix Pie registered his first home of the season. Medlen will be looking for much of the same from the G-Braves offense on Tuesday night as they oppose former Major League veteran and current Paw Sox right-hander Brandon Duckworth (6-1, 4.22). First pitch of the series finale is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from McCoy Stadium.

G-Braves Notes for 6.6.12 at Lehigh Valley

There’s not too many positive things that can be taken away from last night’s 10-1 loss at Lehigh Valley, except the fact that the game is over and in the past. Todd Redmond allowed a season-high seven earned runs and three homers over 3.2 innings before being ejected, and the Gwinnett offense managed just one run on two hits (the run coming on Ernesto Mejia’s solo home run) in their sixth loss in the past seven games. The slide has the G-Braves in unfamiliar territory — second place — for the first time since April 11. Gwinnett had held the first-place spot in the IL South for an impressive 55-straight days.
Tonight, Dave Brundage’s crew looks to take first place back as they try and right the ship against the IronPigs. Lefty Yohan Flande (2-3, 3.44) pitched 7.0 scoreless frames in a 4-0 victory over Lehigh Valley his last time out, he’ll look to replicate that success against a ‘Pigs team that is suddenly swinging hot bats.
Meanwhile, the G-Braves offense is going to have to back Flande with something. The lineup scored zero runs for Redmond last night and zero runs for Eric Junge the previous game in Charlotte. They’ll have a tough task in IronPigs’ right-hander Tyler Cloyd (4-1, 2.47), who pitched 6.0 innings with three runs in a no-decision his last time facing Gwinnett on May 31.

G-Braves Seeking Sixth Straight Win Wednesday

Following the “Memorial Day Miracle” on Monday night, the Gwinnett Braves took it easy on Tuesday as they defeated Lehigh Valley 4-0 from Coolray Field. Yohan Flande was brilliant for his second win of the season and first since April 14, working seven scoreless innings against the ‘Pigs. A three-run fourth inning was all the offense Gwinnett’s pitchers needed as they cruised to their 32nd win of the season in two hours and 12 minutes. With the victory, the G-Braves extended their win-streak to five games and the IronPigs extended their losing-streak to six games as they have fallen from second place in the IL North to fourth in a matter of days.
Stefan Gartrell posted the only multi-hit game for either side, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. After hitting just .165 in April, Gartrell is batting .340 in May, raising his season average to .263.

The IronPigs are in Georgia for just four days as the two teams face-off for the first time in 2012. Currently, Lehigh Valley is tied for third place in the IL South alongside Scranton, the New York Yankees affiliate. Aside from the three-game win streak for the G-Braves, they are 5-5 in their last 10 games and 17-8 at home this year.

Hall-of-Famer Ryne Sandberg is the manager of the Lehigh Valley ballclub and is looking to get his troops going on Wednesday as they have lost six straight games. G-Braves Look To Keep Rolling Tuesday

The Gwinnett Braves entered the ninth on Memorial Day trailing Lehigh Valley 8-3, but scored a miraculous six runs in the frame to defeat the IronPigs, 9-8 on Monday night at Coolray Field. Lance Zawadzki sent the Memorial Day crowd of 6,426 home happy as he delivered the crushing blow, a three-run walk-off home run to right field. The G-Braves will be looking to extend their win-streak to five games on Tuesday night.
Down 8-3 entering the ninth and as much as 8-0 at one point in the game, the G-Braves found a way to chip at the deficit. Ernesto Mejia doubled to drive in Christian Marrerofor the first run of the inning, Joey Terdoslavich added an RBI single scoring Stefan Gartrell and Jose Yepez singled through the left side of the diamond to score Mejia, cutting the deficit to two. With Gwinnett trailing 8-6 and down to their last out, the table was set for Zawadzki. The second baseman belted a 0-1 pitch from IronPigs’ reliever Michael Schwimer onto the right-field berm for his first home run of the season, capping the six-run comeback and giving the G-Braves their fifth walk-off win of the season.
Zawadzki finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs on the night, the most by a G-Brave in a single game this season. His home run, along with a two-run single in the sixth, helped Gwinnett match their largest come-from-behind victory of the season. The club also rallied from an eight-run deficit to beat Norfolk, 14-12 in 11 innings, on April 11 in Norfolk, VA. Marrero also belted a pinch-hit solo home run off Lehigh Valley starter Dave Bush to help the G-Braves get rolling in the sixth.
The Philadelphia Phillies Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh Valley (28-23) is in town for four games at Coolray Field as the two teams play each other just eight times this season. The next match-up will take place in Pennsylvania from June 5-8 amidst a four-game season series finale, barring a playoff match-up.

G-Braves Looking To Extend Win-Streak Monday

What a way to end a homestand than with a doubleheader the night before the team leaves for an eight-game road trip? It is the final day of this enormous 11-game homestand from Coolray Field and your first place Gwinnett Braves (23-13) couldn’t be feeling much better about themselves these days.
Currently, the G-Braves are 5-4 on the homestand after splitting a two-game set with the Charlotte Knights, losing three of four to Buffalo and winning all three against Toledo so far. In 2012, the G-Braves are a perfect 6-0 against the Toledo Mud Hens as they get set to do battle in a Monday double-dip. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. and the second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the first game has concluded.
The newest G-Brave Felix Pie will be making his Braves debut Monday night as he is slotted in the No. 5 spot in the batting order and set to start in right field. Pie was a former top prospect for the Chicago Cubs from 2003-2007, before jumping ship to the Baltimore Orioles organization. There, he played three seasons at the Major League level with the AL East Orioles. He batted a career-high .274 in 2010, his second season with the ballclub.

The first place IL South G-Braves stole the first game of a twinbill, 3-2, from the first place IL West Mud Hens on Friday night. Luis Durango cracked the game-winning hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as both teams were stuck in a tie. With the RBI, the speedster has four in his last three games and is also leading the International League in stolen bases with 18 in 20 attempts. Jair Jurrjens (2-0) went the distance for the complete game win, while allowing just two runs.
In Game 2 Friday night, Gwinnett took advantage of Toledo pitching mistakes from the outset and never looked back. After scoring a few runs in the first inning, a bases loaded walk to Christian Marrero in the fourth inning opened up the floodgates. Anthony Varvaro made the spot-start and Erik Cordier grabbed the win as the G-Braves pitching was stellar for both games of the doubleheader. Joey Terdoslavich and Marrero each had multiple-RBI games in the second contest as they led the Gwinnett offensive charge.
Stefan Gartrell was named the International League Batter of the Week on Monday and he continued his torrid pace over the last three games. The slugger has five home runs in his last nine games, including 12 hits, six runs scored, 12 RBI, an .850 slugging percentage and a walk-off home run to beat Buffalo on Thursday afternoon. Gartrell rose his batting average from .165 to .216 in a matter of days and is only looking to keep climbing from there.
Toledo Mudhens (20-16, 2nd IL West) vs Gwinnett (23-13, 1st IL South)
The No. 2 hitter in Toledo’s line-up for Monday’s game and the leadoff man for the three previous games, Justin Henry, has been on fire lately for the Mud Hens. The third baseman has reached base nine times in three games and will be looking to do more damage in two more games from Coolray tonight.
It will be interesting to see what the Toledo Mud Hens have in store for the G-Braves on Monday. The No. 1 overall prospect in the Detroit Tigers system, Jacob Turner, will be taking the mound against the G-Braves in his Triple-A debut at Coolray Field. Turner was just promoted from Single-A Lakeland as he completely skipped Double-A. In all liklihood this will be a spot-start for the righty and will be demoted to Double-A following the game. However, with a dominant performance he could prove his organization right and stick around for awhile. Either way, it should be exciting to witness Monday night.

G-Braves Game Postponed Until Monday

You would expect it to be a beautiful, sunny afternoon for a Mother’s Day game between your first place Gwinnett Braves and the Toledo Mud Hens. However, mother nature had other intentions, as the fourth game of the five-game series has been postponed until Monday. The G-Braves will be seeking their fifth straight victory when they next take the field. Gwinnett will also be looking to stay unbeaten against Toledo, as they are 6-0 versus the Mud Hens in 2012 heading into Monday’s twinbill.
Now, the G-Braves will end their current 11-game homestand with a doubleheader on the final day of it. First pitch for the first of two games is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. on Monday from Coolray Field. The second game of the double-dip will begin approximately 30 minutes after the first game ends.

Gwinnett Looking To Halt Skid Wednesday

Saturday night began an 11-game homestand in 10 days for the Gwinnett Braves. Game No. 5 from Coolray Field is set for Wednesday night and it should be a good one between Gwinnett and Buffalo.
Tuesday the G-Braves were shutout by the Bisons, 3-0. Buffalo scored one run in each of the first three innings of the game and would not look back from there. Add the fact that Matt Harvey, the No. 2 prospect in the New York Mets system, was on the bump and the G-Braves were looking at a near improbable comeback situation.
The G-Braves have lost five of their last six games, but are still resting comfortably in first place of the International League South Division at 19-12. The next closest team in the division is Charlotte at 15-16 who is four games behind your G-Braves. Gwinnett does not own the best record in the league anymore after their latest skid, however they are just one game behind the IL-leading Pawtucket Red Sox (20-13).
Buffalo (19-13) is surging after going 7-3 in their last 10 games and staring up in the standings at the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate, trailing by just a single game. The Bisons are loaded with pitching talent and will have their No. 4 overall prospect on the mound Wednesday, as he follows the No. 2 prospect last night.
Stefan Gartrell was named the International League Batter of the Week as he continues his torrid pace. The slugger is batting over .400 in his last seven games, including four home runs, nine RBI and an .850 slugging percentage. Gartrell rose his batting average from .165 to .216 in a matter of days.

One of the top pitching prospects in baseball Jeurys Familia (2-1, 5.06) is set to take the mound Wednesday against G-Braves southpaw Yohan Flande (1-1, 2.96) for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Familia is the New York Mets No. 4 overall prospect according to Baseball America.
Wednesday, May 8 – First Pitch 7:05 p.m. @ Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA
The host of the 2012 IL All-Star Game, Buffalo Bisons, are in town for their first match-up with the G-Braves this season. The two teams will battle in their first of two four-game series’ this season, with the initial meeting in Georgia. The two teams will play one another in another four-game set, the next time from Buffalo following the G-Braves current 11-game homestand. The season-series finale is set to take place from Tuesday May 15 through Friday May 18 in New York.

G-Braves Notes for 5.4.12 at Columbus
The Gwinnett Braves (18-9) close out the eight-game road trip tonight, looking for a series split with the Columbus Clippers (15-12) after falling in a 12-8 slugfest last night. Josh Wilson, J.C. Boscan and Stefan Gartrell all homered for the G-Braves, but left-hander Yohan Flande was shelled for seven runs (six earned) in his first loss of the year and the bullpen surrendered five more runs to put the game out of reach.
Wilson ans Boscan went back-to-back for solo homers off right-hander Kevin Slowey in the second inning, becoming the first G-Braves’ tandem to do so this year. Gartrell, meanwhile, stayed red hot with his third home run of the series. He’s hitting .421 (8-for-19) with the three blasts and eight RBI on a five-game hitting streak. Ernesto Mejia also contributed, going 1-for-5 with a two-run double to extend his team RBI lead to 17.

G-Braves Notes for 5.3.12 at Columbus
The rain finally took a break last night in Columbus as the G-Braves were able to finish Tuesday’s suspended game and get game two in as well against the Clippers. J.C. Boscan, Luis Durango and Jose Constanza all recorded RBI hits in a four-run fourth that led Gwinnett to a 7-4 win in game one, but game two saw the G-Braves tie a season high with four errors in a 3-2 loss in seven innings. Stefan Gartrell had himself a day, going 5-for-9 with two home runs (his second and third on the year) and three RBI, while pitching proved to be strong once again. Right-hander Buddy Carlyle improved to 2-0 with his relief win in game one, while right-hander Eric Junge went the full 6.0 innings in a tough-luck loss in game two. Junge (L, 3-2), yielded three runs but just one earned, extending his quality start streak to three while seeing his winning streak snapped at three.
Tonight, the G-Braves attempt to secure at least a series split against the Clippers with left-hander Yohan Flande (1-0, 0.90) on the mound. Flande saw his 19.2-inning scoreless streak end in his last outing on April 27 at Toledo, but will look to start a new streak as he faces the top hitting team in the International League (Columbus is hitting .283 this season). Right-hander Kevin Slowey (1-2, 4.85) will start for the Clippers.
